The One Trick That Will Always Fix a Golf Slice
When you hit a golf ball with your driver, does it start off straight and then curve way off to the right? This is known as a slice. If you are frustrated with hitting slices, you're in the right place. I'm going to help you understand why they occur and what you need to do, in order to stop them forever.
A slice occurs when, at the point of impact, the clubface is open (pointing right), relative to the clubpath. The difference between the direction in which the clubface is pointing and the path of the clubhead, at the point of impact, creates sidespin. With a slice, this sidespin is clockwise and the clockwise rotation of the ball makes it curve to the right.
In order to fix a slice, you need to close the clubface. In other words, you need the clubface to point more towards the left.
There are two things that control the direction in which your clubface points in your golf swing.
1) Your grip.
2) The angle created by your left wrist.
Golfers who slice the ball, do so because their grip and/or their lead wrist position promotes an open clubface.
When you change your grip and your lead wrist position to promote a more closed clubface, the slice stops. It's as simple as that.
When you understand how to control the clubface with your grip and your lead wrist, you gain the power to shape your shots. You can hit it dead straight or you can chose to curve the ball left or right.
If you'd like to see a detailed explanation, with pictures, showing you precisely how to use your grip and left wrist to get rid of a slice, there is a PDF at the bottom of this page which you can download.
Here are some of the things you will learn:
